HIE-Bridge™denotes a Health Information Exchange bridging distance through technology to provide timely and quality health care efficiently at less cost. Starting with 47 sites - hospitals, clinics, and a long-term care facility all using a variety of internal computer programs - authorized people clicking a few computer keys can obtain needed, occasionally crucial, information on a patient, sometimes even before the patient arrives at a facility.

The founding members of the HIE-Bridge include St. Luke's and Essentia Health Systems, both headquartered in Duluth, Minnesota with clinics located throughout the region. In addition, six critical access hospitals, three federally qualified health centers and two Ecumen facilities (Bayshore and Lakeshore) are early adopters of the system. Ecumen is a multi-state system of long-term care facilities.
